Iron Mountain’s Asset Lifecycle Management business grows and supports sustainability goals

Iron Mountain has built a reputation of trust and security for over 70 years, protecting what matters most to our customers. As our customers began to move away from paper records to digital solutions, we introduced IT asset disposition, which has now evolved into Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM). With the acquisitions of ITRenew in 2022 and Regency Technologies earlier this year, Iron Mountain’s ALM services care for our customers’ assets throughout the entire lifecycle, recently bringing capabilities like equipment refurbishing and back-end processing in-house.

In an article in Recycling Today, Mark Kidd, EVP & GM, ALM and Data Centers, discussed the current state of the ALM business, how recent acquisitions enable us to serve our customers, and the importance of our sustainability impact along the way.

"When we think about reducing carbon footprint, anything that’s resold is always better off than anything that goes to the scrap pile,” Mark said. “I think we have the ability to influence where things are going much more. And, from a customer perspective, carbon reporting [and] circularity, these are huge points, which, in some ways, they’re less about the money but more about what’s actually happening [with the devices].”

Mark shared the global opportunity for ALM and Iron Mountain, with 17 locations that provide ALM services worldwide. "Sitting here with the resources we have as a company, I get very excited about creating a multinational, global story about what’s possible in this industry, from information security all the way through what are we doing environmentally.”
